Parisian Sky

August 1, 2007

Last weekend, violetta ( our russian friend ) and Nassim ( our admission manager) took a joy ride to the sky of Paris. The pair went on a flying trip using a small plane. From the video we can see that Violetta is enjoying her flying lessons and experience. Most importantly, that you survived to put your experience in Youtube. It is really an amazing weekend by one of our intern

Castle-Climbing in Germany

July 3, 2007

“Watch out for the stinging nettle!” – Daniela

“What does stinging nettle look like?” – Me

“See that thing that you are standing waist-deep in…?”

Shawna from Cologne, Germany here. So other than learning valuable lessons about what NOT to liberally traipse through, this weekend we (myself, Daniela, my co-intern/probable future ISU student J and Chris, the visiting NASA Biomedical Engineer at EAC ESA) visited castles galore and took a million pictures. We’ll spare you, though, and only show you the highlights.

First, we visited a castle in Koblenz where parts of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade were filmed. Yes, THAT Indiana Jones. Very pretty, even if the tour was in German and we smiled and nodded with vacant looks in our eyes lots.

The rest of the day was even MORE amazing than that: Next we visited the itty-bitty town of Monreal (population of several hundred, tops!) and spent the day climbing amongst the ruins of castles from the 13th century (and through stinging nettle – word to the wise: if you can avoid it – DO!).

Of course, I would be the worst Canadian ever if I didn’t celebrate July 1st, Canada Day, so the next day, the three of us hit Cologne for some Mexican food and ice cream – to all the other Canucks out there, HAPPY CANADA DAY!!

I could go on about how amazing the weekend was, but really – the photos speak for themselves, so enjoy!

Ed Note : Shawna is the only climber that brings umbrella during her climb( see climb pictures). She can face the danger and thrill of a rock climb, but she needs her umbrella for the rain on top !!

Missed Le Bourget ??

July 1, 2007

If you miss the last weekend Le Bourget show, dont fret because of our special friend from Russia is there bringing stories and pictures from the Paris Airshow 2007. Violetta is now having an internship in Frost and Sullivan Paris and last weekend , she visited the Paris Air Show 3 days in a row. ( Amazing, she cant get enough of aerospace stuff) . She brought many amazing pictures from the air show and of course being a Russian herself, she is proud to bring pictures from the Russian Aerospace Technology.

V ( Violetta’s nick ) also watch the Airbus 380 flight, sit on the EADS Space Tourism plane and of course watching the fighter plane do acrobatic show.

Little archeologist back from Syria

June 14, 2007

Here is an email from our lovely, beautiful and talented TA, who took off to Syria during her holidays, while we are struggling with our internship.

“Hey all,

I hope everything is going well for you all over the world and that your internships started off well!

Just wanted to let you know I went to Homs, Syria, to actually make sure what you said was correct 😉 and here is a picture of me playing little archeologist

Syria could actually be turned into a gigantic Archeoland, because Im sure wherever you excavate, youll bump into something 6000 years old here I am with a mosaic that somebody discovered by mistake yep I know, no future for space in there

PS; Did you find any treasure back for us ??
